HI,
I was thinking of making a proposal to set up a SB day later on in the year. SO there are a few BAD players and Ray knows folk at October and the Mansfield boys.
The proposal would be play as a pair (one allied one central powers) to avoid blue on blue. Then aggregate the scores, so if it was one day of 2 games them you’d have 4 scores
I’d try to avoid it being touted as a competition , more as a SB day to play against different folk??

A bit more info. So as it stands it will be Nov 12th / 13th.
Most likely Early War period, as that is what most people have, and avoids the complicated trench issue. Probably pre set terrain so we ca set it up beforehand and give them a theme.
It would be great if we could get 6 pairs of players

I have 1 other interested team from Stoke.Ideally we have 6 teams, so another 3 players would be great. So any Burton members that wish to participate shout out. Its in November, so there is plenty of time.

The theme will be “up til the guns of August”. The period will from 1900 put to, and including 1914. It will be a team event (entries permitting). The armies are divided into 2 Pools, grouped by conflict. Each team must pick a pair of armies from a single conflict.
The allowed lists are –
There will be 2 games, Team against Team (As vs Bs). For each game he sum of each team score will be added to the team total. To encourage using under valued armies the sum total of army rating will be deducted from final score.
The terrain will be pre set , other than its RAW. All painted figures please, we want it to look nice!
As a date for this has still to be finalised I thought I’d take a look at significant events on available dates in October that might inspire players:
1899 October 30th. 2nd Boer War – ‘Mournful Monday’. Two British defeats led to the largest surrender of British troops since the Napoleonic Wars.
1904 October 22nd. Russo-Japanese War – Dogger Bank incident when the Russian Baltic fleet mistook British trawlers for Japanese warships.
1912 October 23rd. First Balkan War – Serbs defeat western Ottoman army at Kumanovo.
1914 October 12th. WWI – Start of battle of Messines, part of the Race to the Sea that largely decided the line of the Western Front.
1915 October 8th. WWI – end of Battle of Loos. The first use of gas by British forces. The failure of the British assaults led to the removal of Sir John French as commander of the BEF.
1916 October 25th WWI – French counterattacks at Verdun lead to the recapture of Fort Douaumont.

Hi, so it looks like the Squarebashing day is non-starter at the club itself – as the rooms are fully booked. How about a trip to Daventry, to play at Battlefield hobbies? nice jolly out, make a change? nice venue – shop – lunch… not too far.. make a change!

It looks like an attractive alternative so this would certainly be worth looking into the cost. Did I mention that the October club venue in Birmingham would be around £100 for the day?
spoke to Hammy, and we can get Battlefield hobbies at £5 per player per table. With the option of £5 for food thrown in too.. I’m just looking at dates, but early dec is a possibility
Hi, to confirm that I’m going to book this for the 10th Dec. Its occurs to me that even if you don’t want to ply SB then you can come along and play your game alongside – so we make it club social as well.
I had a bit of a recce at Battlefield hobbies this weekend (at the BHGS doubles). We’ve got the small room, as we are likely not to break double figures. Its nice and comfortable
They will lay on a buffet (so it will be £10 per head rater than £5), they have a £2 mug hire (bottomless tea and coffee) , so should all be very pleasant. I do need to confirm numbers by mid November so please let me know if you are interested.
As we are looking at lower numbers, we’ll probably drop the theme and just keep it open (and handle the draw appropriately)
