There are two TV programmes next week on the legacy of Britain’s First World War campaign in the Middle East:

Letters from Baghdad. BBC Four, Mon 18 Sept, 9.00 – 10.30pm
An unseen Tilda Swinton reads from the letters of Gertrude Bell, the explorer and archaeologist who had a central role in the creation of Iraq after the First World War. Meantime, alongside archive footage, actors speak to camera in the guise of her contemporaries. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b095vnm7

    Followed by……

The Legacy of Lawrence of Arabia. BBC Four, Mon 18 Sept, 10.30 – 11.30pm

Repeat of a two-part documentary, in which Rory Stewart examines the legacy of Britain’s First World War campaign in the Middle East, and draws parallels with British and American interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan today. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00pyrw1

Part 2: BBC Four, Tues 19 Sept 11.00pm

    Regards

    Ray
