    Over five weekday episodes, historian Hew Strachan considers diplomatic efforts to end the carnage of the First World War. He begins with the story of how the US, under President Woodrow Wilson, attempted to act as peace brokers in 1916, only to enter the conflict in April 1917. Other episodes cover Peace in the Land of the Soviets, Armistice, the Treaty of Versailles and Peace in the Levant.
