One small subject that deserves mention is uploading pictures. A picture on a website only needs to be very low quality. The screen only displays ~72 DPI, so any more is a waste. Modern cameras are brilliant at creating massive files. This is not good from a website perspective. Space for one thing is a commodity with a financial implication. However the most relevant is bandwidth. If you upload a 10 MB picture, and have 60 visitors who look at that picture. That means you will have used up 600MB of bandwidth. The Lurkio website has a monthly bandwidth of 5GB. This might seem a lot but it breached last month (not as a result of BAD wargamers I hasten to add!) that means the website just goes offline.
When you upload a picture then it should ask you what size picture to upload (this is tricky now, as there or many ways to upload pictures to the website) , never say original size – especially if it has come from a camera. Just look at the dimension it offers. The website is configured for a <1000 pixel display (to make it mobile friendly) anymore and it’s really a waste. Just something to be aware of.
Once a big picture is uploaded , it’s not the end of the world. It can be re-sized in WordPress.
