Adam Curtis: Bitter Lake debuts on iPlayer. Not broadcast, but direct to iPLayer doesn’t sound too great. But it is an interesting take on the whole Afghan affair. Stylish ‘brit’ Michael Moorcock show and tell. Prolly not for the feint hearted as includes real death and very close to showing beheading.
No one comes out smelling of roses, esp the Saudi’s, who come across with the strongest agenda of spreading Wahhabism.Great cut scenes with Carry on Up the Khyber. The British army come across as really naïve.
Goes back to 1946 with Roosevelt’s attempt to modernism Afghanistan, by building the dams for hydro electricity , which in turn rose the water table and made the top soil salty which made for optimum opium growing conditions.
