ModeratorHi,
as we are in the new year – I get the website bills it reminds me to do a bit of admin and housekeeping. So I’ll be looking to prune any bits of old or irrelevant content off the site.
While I am here is there any suggestions about any improvements that could be made? (unfortunately I wasn’t at the ATM where I should have raised it as an agenda item)
Do we want to actually continue with it in its current format? Over the past 2 years its been a struggle to get content and many this is mostly a sort of ‘bulletin board’.
As an alternative we could just set a facebook group page, make it private and go that way. That would be free. UK domain registration is going up this year (not by much), but it probably means its costing about £3-4 per month to run the site in total (not that I’ve invoiced the club for it yet – note to self!)any comments?
Everyone happy ? knock it on the head?let me know
Simon

ModeratorHi Simon, as a fairly infrequent poster I would say to keep things as they are as I’m only just getting used to this system.

ModeratorHi Simon,
I hope you can keep running the website more or less in its current format. I think for the size of the club the content and contribution rate is not too bad, and if you are prepared to do the (much appreciated) work we should certainly be able to afford the running costs. These days its probably the most efficient way to bring in new blood to the club.
I’m not a Facebook or Twitter user – and don’t want to be. Saying something for the sake of saying something when you really have nothing to say just annoys me! Having said that if members don’t feel up to writing a full article for the site I would appreciate being kept up to date with their hobby activities (upcoming games, latest painting projects, suggestions for playing new periods or game systems etc). A write up of the AGM would also be welcome.January 15, 2016 at 1:01 pm #1578James Staley
ModeratorHi All,
I thought I might as well throw my own views in.
On the basis that there are probably a few folks not on Facebook (I’m sure there’s more than just Andy), having the website remain and be usable by all seems the best idea.
In terms of the content, I guess it depends what the website is here for. If you want to bring more people to the group then I think more content is important, currently it seems to skew towards the big one day games and so be quite irregular (and focused on the same contributors). Which I don’t think reflects the breadth of games the club encompasses.
Having said all that, my own contribution has been nil, and I’m not the one having to chase content so it feels a little unfair of me to suggest you do any more than currently.January 15, 2016 at 1:23 pm #1579Simon Clarke
ModeratorHi,
thanks all for taking the time to reply. As I see it we have 3 streams of electronic social communications.
Website. This is a vehicle to bring new members in and demonstrate what the club is about. So one day game , game league etc all show that it is a vibrant club o when someone visits then they might be persuaded to turn up. For this content turnover is vital. Not only do static webpages drop down the search engine rankings, but when people visit and it hadn’t changed for a long time then actually it more likely to have a negative impact on the visitor (so actually worse that no site). I think we are OK cycling the content – could be better. But again relies on a subset of the members. If we looked at a basic monthly update then if we dished that out its only about 1 piece per year!
Forum. This is really internal communication. Club dates ,sales ect. When you post then the posts is redistributed to all subscribing members
WhatsApp. Again another smartphone based message board for internal comms (arranging games ect). This has been one of the success stories as its really easy to use.
I’m not really saying anything should change. But while I’m just looking this is the time to make changes if any are required.

KeymasterHi Simon
I think the website’s excellent and reflects well on the club, but I’m guilty myself of only having written 6-7 articles over the past 2 years. I’d like to keep it but I think there’s a wider apathy issue that needs to be borne in mind unfortunately…
